Getachew Gugsa (DVM, MSc in Molecular Biology)
I am working as an Assistance Professor of Molecular Biology in Mekelle
University, College ofVeterinary Medicine, Department of Veterinary Medicine.
Now I am the Course Team Leader of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and
teaching these courses for our department as well as for animal science
department students, and conducting research. When I returned back to Ethiopia
started to establish Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Laboratory because we
did not have a well equipped lab, so I have achieved my mission by making
available equipments like PCR machine, gel-electrophoresis apparatus,
gel-documentation and other related materials. So, I am serving my country in
accordance with what I promised just before I got the scholarship for the better
of my College as a whole for the country.

Professor, i am very very happy for the courses i took in IPMB. The courses i took at IPMB served as tools for my PhD works. I really like IPMB and i am really willing to continue my professional career in the field. I published in "Experimental and Applied Acarology", one of the exciting papers. I also presented this paper at the 7th EURAAC Symposium held at Vienna from on July 2012 (available online in Exp. Appl. Acarol). Some are in preparation.I
submitted a Proposal, with one of my Supervisor (a Brasilian), for a PostDoc work in Brasil. It will be a molecular work. We are still waiting for the decision. Please, any advices from you to help me develop my career in molecular biology are welcome! I need it.

Helping re-build Somalia
By Heshborne Tindih ( [email protected] )
Somalia is a country that has been ravaged with the long civil war after the fall of Sayed Barre in 1991. However, the modern Somalia consists of three regions, the unstable Southern part of Somalia, the Punt land sandwiched between the two region right at the sharp horn of Africa and the northern part of Somalia bordering northern Ethiopia and Eastern Djibouti called the republic of Somaliland. I think the MSc degree that I received from IPMB is the single most important in my career. Because, without that degree, I could not have received a PhD offer and obviously I would not be in the place where I am now.
Rafijul Bari, PhD., Bangladesh (IPMB 1998-2000)
I am very proud of what I was trained and learnt from IPMB. I would like to upgrade my progress. I am third year PhD student in Immunology and Cancer Biology program at University of Texas, MD Anderson Cancer Center. I just recieved a award for outstanding young immonologist.
Thang Van Nguyen, Vietnam (IPMB 2001-2003)
My IPMB MSc degree opened my eyes and I am now fully equipped with skills to carry out effective research aimed at finding solutions to problems mainly caused by the infectious diseases.
Samuel Oyola, PhD., Kenya (IPMB 2000-2002)
The IPMB MSc was extremely important in my career development as it paved the way for me to receive a promotion from the University of Zambia's staff development program (as a trainee lecturer) to the position of full-time lecturer at the institution. The MSc was also pivotal in allowing me to succesfully complete and recieve a PhD scholarship in the United Kingdom.
Joseph Nkolola, PhD., Zambia (IPMB 1996-1998)
I have a vision of becoming a scientist, involved in research and teaching both to undergraduate and graduate students. The MSc I obtained has paved a way for me to pursue a PhD in Molecular Biology. Before my MSc, I was a Research Assistant. After my MSc, I am now a graduate assistant. I consider this as a promotion. I am beter placed to assume many positions in the goverment, which I am currently pursuing.
Sylvester Anami, PhD., Kenya ( IPMB 2002-2004)
The M.Sc. Molecular Biology degree I obtained from the IPMB program served as the bed rock for my scientific career. It was the basis for my Doctorate Fellowship at VUB, which further led me to my present career as a “Drug Development Scientist” in the Pharmaceutical Industry. This program prepares you for the kind of cutting edge scientific research that is currently ongoing in the fast pace field of Biotechnology.
Julius Enoru, Ph.D., Cameroon (IPMB 1997-1998).
Life in IPMB in first year is real nice, especially when u come to Belgium and u want to explore everywhere at the same time combining this with books. It’s the most stimulating and intellectually rewarding course that any molecular Biologist would admire. There is little to social life but when compared to the academic wealth it’s worth it.
Personally IPMB has shaped my life and I believe am going to face my future work with confidence. I would encourage anyone who wants real background in Biology to dare this course, since it has the most experienced professors who are not only committed to help their students but also ensure that they succeed. But remember all are possible through hard work.
